The Byrds - I"ll Feel A Whole Lot Better
If thirty-five years-of-age is considered mid-life, then I am about fifteen weeks away from celebrating my 35th anniversary of my turning thirty-five.
Perhaps that is why I have frequently been having random songs come to mind from my teen and pre-teen years.
On my 12th birthday (Sept. 1965), my father's mother bought me a clock-radio with a small, goose-necked reading lamp attached. It was the best gift I had received in a long time. I treasured immensely. It fit inside the open area of my headboard perfectly. So I could set the auto-off timer to 30 minutes and drift off to sleep, listening to my favorite radio station, without disturbing my parents.
The first night, I kept resetting the auto-off timer because I couldn't fall asleep! I was too excited about my grandmother's birthday gift to me. In the past, she had simply included a $5 bill in with the birthday card she would send me. This clock-radio was the best gift ever!
The song I remember hearing played the most often that night was 1-2-3, by Len Barry. And the second most frequently played song I heard that night? You guessed it! 'I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better' by The Byrds.
For some reason, that song came to mind today. As I was rolling the lyrics around in my head, the thought came to me that, if I were to apply the meaning of the lyrics to my (former) selfish, self-centered, alcoholic lifestyle (instead of the original meaning), they would fit perfectly!
If you view the video posted above on YouTube, make sure you review the INFO section, and check out the lyrics while you're listening to the song. If you are at all like me, I'm sure you might discover that they can fit you in some alternative way as well.
Enjoy! \o/
