Why Faith Based Recovery

Dr Robert Holbrook “Bob” Smith

In the book, Alcoholics Anonymous, is a story entitled. "Dr. Bob's Nightmare". It is his personal account of his struggle with alcohol and the solution he employed that lead to his recovery.

Speaking of the spiritual solution that leads to recovery, he writes;
 If you think you are an atheist, an agnostic, a skeptic, or have any other form of intellectual pride which keeps you from accepting what is in this book, I feel sorry for you. If you still think you are strong enough to beat the game alone, that is your affair. But if you really and truly want to quit drinking liquor for good and all, and sincerely feel that you must have some help, we know that we have an answer for you. It never fails, if you go about it with one half the zeal you have been in the habit of showing when you were getting another drink.
    Your Heavenly Father will never let you down!
In the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd editions of the book, Alcoholics Anonymous, there are personal stories by those who, like Dr Bob, discovered that faith in and surrender to the God of the Bible, gave them the ability to do what they could not do for themselves -- and no one else could do for them.

Not everyone who has employed the suggested 12-Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous has followed the same approach to finding a power greater than themselves, in an effort to overcome their drinking problem. Their results have been various and precarious, to say the least.

But of those who, like Dr. Bob and many others, placed their faith in their Creator, can unequivocally declare - beyond a shadow of a doubt - that had they not done so, they would have died in their misery.

I am one of those people. That is why, at every opportunity, I share my gratitude to God for moving in my heart and life, to not only save me from my alcoholism, but also saving me from my self-seeking, self-centered lifestyle.

This video is another attempt to share with those whom God directs, how and why, when it comes to seeking a Power greater than oneself to overcome the spiritual sickness that is within each and every one of us, there is only One who has all power. That One is God. May you find Him now!

As addicts and alcoholics, we tend to blame our actions on the substances we ingested, because - under the influence - we did and said things we normally would not do or say.
